Varsity Field Hockey
The 2019 season tryouts will be on August 5, 6, and 7 from 4:30-7:30. Teams will be announced on August 7. Practices will begin after tryouts on August 8. If you are trying out for the team, please try not to schedule vacation for August 5 or later. Once teams are established, we spend a good portion of August developing our teams by learning plays and developing cohesion.
In order to tryout, you need to have a stick, shin guards, goggles that are ATSM certified (see this link for an example of the goggles) and a colored mouth guard. Clear mouth guards are not allowed. Please contact Coach Walker if you have any questions regarding equipment.
All players must have a completed VHSL physical turned in as well as a complete the concussion training before tryouts. All rising 9th graders and new players to PWCS need to complete the face to face concussion training. The dates for the Battlefield concussion trainings are June 10 at 6 PM and July 29 and 7 PM. Please be on time as the doors are closed and locked promptly at those times. Anyone who does not have those completed and turned in will not be able to participate in tryouts until those items are in to the athletic office.
All players interested in trying out for the team are highly encouraged to come to tryouts with a basic knowledge of field hockey. It is also highly recommended that each player conditions over the summer as there is a lot of running involved in field hockey. The coaches have set up summer conditioning at Next Level Fitness. Please click here for more information and for registration. I highly recommend this program!
If you have any questions, please contact Coach Walker at firstname.lastname@example.org. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at tryouts!
